Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him. Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:1-3
I have read these verses so many times, and I am so thankful the Holy Spirit showed me what He did tonight.
When we first see these three siblings, there is conflict between Mary and Martha about whether they should be serving, or listening. But here, we see no such conflict. Jesus scolds no one, in fact, He accepts all three. And He calls us, He calls me, to be Martha, Lazarus, and Mary.
Martha serves Him diligently.
Lazarus is with Him intimately.
Mary worships Him extravagantly.
This is what He wants from me.
Father, please change me until I act like Martha, Lazarus, and Mary, and look like Jesus.
